Girls Soccer Finals

A great big congratulations goes out to the Girls Soccer team who played in the WECDSB 'A' Division Finals last night and WON 1-0 against a much improved and very determined St. William's team.

In the first half, our Lady Cards battled against the gusting winds, holding off the St. William's attack with stellar defence from McKenna DiFazio, Simone Duhanaj, Lauren Purves, and Abbey Lyder and steady goaltending from Lily Estephan.  About midway through the half, Mykaela Everitt was able to break through the opposition and burried a left foot blast into the bottom corner of the net and our girls took a 1-0 lead into the half.

With the wind at their backs in the second half, Our Lady Cards poured on the pressure with Leah Burell, Jada Riccardi, and Lily Jas moving through the midfield, however despite numerous attempts were unable to pop in an insurance marker.

The game went down to the wire, with St. Williams giving everything they had, but our defence played strong and the girls were able to fend off a last minute push.

It was a whole team effort and a great job by all members of the team. Congratulations, Mr. Trepanier is very proud of you.  It is the first time in CCMS history for a team go undefeated through the entire season.

Congratulations!!

Boys Soccer Playoff

Congratulations goes out to our CCMS boys soccer team, who competed in the WECDSB playoff tournament on Friday in Belle River.

The boys first opponent was a familiar one, in St. John Vianney...who they beat handily during the season.  The postseason takes on a different feel, however, and they couldn't be taken lightly.

The game was tight defensively, but eventually our Cards would take the lead on a goal by Anthony E., just before halftime.  In the second half, the Cards would add 2 more from Liam B. and Tyler B. and coast to a 3-1 victory.

Next up for our boys was a semi-final tilt versus Notre Dame.  The second game of the day was much more intense, and the Cards knew they had a fight on their hands.  Playing with the wind advantage in the 1st half, play went back and forth, but the Wildcats would strike 1st and the Cards would have to play catch up.  Our boys would get goals from Zach B. but go into halftime down 3-2.  In the second half, CCMS battled the wind as well as a relentless Wildcat attack, and couldn't find any momentum.  They would give up another 2 goals in defeat.

Special mention goes out to Jacob B, Aidan C. and Lucas R. who worked incredibly hard on defense all day long.

Great job boys.  Corpus is proud of your efforts. Please turn in clean uniforms to Mr. Kennette or Mr. Ballard as soon as you can.

Girls Soccer Playoffs on Friday

Last Friday, at the Atlas tube Centre in Belle River, our Lady Card faced two tough opponents in their quest to make it to the Finals in the WECDSB 'A' Division schools soccer playoffs.

In the first game against St. John Vianney, our Lady cards put up an amazing fight.  Our defence was solid and our offence even more impressive.  The team took of like a rocket with Jessica Doll hammering home a lovely cross from Mykaela Everitt.  Soon after the score was tied at 1-1, but the team's confidence remained unrattled. By half time, the girls had a 3-1 lead with goals by Mykaela Everitt and Alexis Constantin. In the second half, the team never looked back, they continued to play great D and continued to apply pressure with Mykaela Everitt popping in 2 more goals to seal the deal with a 4-2 win and the team moving on to the next round against a very talented team in Notre Dame.

In the second game, Mykaela Everitt got the ball rolling again with a quick left foot strike to the bottom righthand corner of the net.  Then Alexis Constantin sent a nice corner pass into the top of the box for Lily Jas who hammered it home.  Notre Dame came back with a tally of there own, and then Mykaela pushed the lead back up to 2 with another beautiful ball into the opposite corner of the net.  Before the end of the half the Wildcats would strike again and the Lady Cards held on to a 3-2 lead going into the half.

After a spirited pep talk at half, the Lady Cards flew out in the second half wearing down the opposition with consistent pressure and accurate striking from Cristina Charles launching one into the top left corner and Mykaela hammering home another 2 goals to polish off another great team win for the Lady Cards with a 6-3 win.

Over the course of the 2 games, there is a special shout out to McKenna DiFazio, Simone Duhanaj, Cristina Charles, and Ellie Voakes for their amazing D and to Lily Estephan for being great between the pipes.

So congratulations to our Lady Cards Soccer team, who will be advancing and playing in the school board finals on Tuesday after against St. William. Best of luck and keep up the hard work.
