Announcements

1. Chess Team there is a vital meeting today to confirm our entry to the Chess Tournament on February 28th. You must be here.
2. Wow what a game. 18 925 fans jam packed into the CCMS Coliseum to witness the most exciting basketball game in CCMS History. Down by 7 and by 5 on a couple of occasions, the Cardinals rallied behind their stout defense and hit some key shots in defeating LAD. They proceed next to the Elite 8 with a game here next Thursday. Players check Google classroom for the schedule for the week.
3.  Olympic Update..We are still at a solid 13 medals right now...With both our hockey teams pulling out victories. Keep rooting on our home team we go against the best in the world.
4. Looking for something to do this weekend?... Take a trip down to Amherstburg to The Amherstburg Freedom Museum in Ontario  to learn more about African-Canadian history.

2. Black History Month Fact.... During the War of American Independence (1775-1783), the British offered freedom to enslaved Africans in America who joined the British side during the war. Many accepted the invitation, and as a result 10 percent of the United Empire Loyalists coming into the Maritimes were Black.
3. Olympic Update...We are up to 10 medals now in the official count.

1. Chess Team...You must be there every day over the next 2 weeks..if you haven't gotten your form..You need to see Mr. Adams ASAP.

4. Black History Month Fact of the day...In 1628, Olivier LeJeune was recorded as the first enslaved African to live in Canada (i.e. New France). Olivier LeJeune's birth name is not known, as he was taken from Africa as a young child and eventually given the last name of the priest who purchased him.

People of African descent were enslaved in Canada from 1628 until slavery was abolished in Upper Canada in 1793 and throughout the entire British Empire in 1833.

5. Olympic Update..Canada is still crushing it with 9 medals..including 3 Gold. WAY TO MAKE US PROUD CANUCKS.

Monday Announcements

1. Black History Month Fact..Our Rosa Parks: Viola Davis Desmond was not here for the nonsense. In 1946, she pulled a Rosa Parks in Nova Scotia's Roseland Theatre as she refused to sit in the balcony and instead sat in the seats reserved exclusively for white people. She was later arrested. In 2010, the government of Nova Scotia apologized to her family for the incident.

2. Olympic Fact..We currently sit in second place with 6 medals..  1 Gold/4 Silver and 1 Bronze medals. Way to Canada!

3. Health Team meeting today...We need all students on the team today in Room 15.
4. Chess Team...There is mandatory meeting for all team members to go over the tourney today. You must be there!

5. We have started the Hero of Play program for the duration of the Olympics. We are looking for students who lives a healthy active lifestyle and embodies the Olympic values of excellence, friendship and respect. Our first winner is Jacob Renaud.

6. Congratulations to the CCMS Choir! You rocked the National Anthem at the Windsor Spitfires game. Many people remarked it was the best of the year! Way to make us proud.
