With Chromebooks being due back to classrooms by tomorrow, Gamer's Lounge will be shutting down for the year, however, we have some good news for you!

Starting today, Gamer's Lounge will transform into World Cup Lounge!

On any day where a World Cup game is taking place during our lunch hour, students are welcome to stop by the World Cup Lounge in Room 23 to take in some of the action.

Tuesday Announcement - Ball Throw

Attention Ball Throwers!

Ball Throw tryouts will take place every Wednesday from 12:20-1:00 outside in the field (weather permitting). If you wish to attend tryouts, please sign your name on the chart paper outside Rm. 23 (Gamer's Lounge). Students who are trying out must have completed training camp and should bring their baseball glove to school on Wednesdays, if possible. Reminder: all Gr. 7 & Gr. 8 throwers must use a softball sized ball this year. Lastly, if you have tryouts for another event during this time, please speak with your event coach before reporting to Ball Throw practice.

Friday Announcements

1. Today is the last day of training camp. The coaches will put together the final list of people who survived training camp. If you survived training camp, next week will be tryouts for the events that you would like to try out for. It is important that you listen to announcements daily.
All sprinters....100 /200/ 300 /400 metre runners...practices will be after school at CCMS starting on Monday. On Tuesday we will have run-offs for the 100 metres that will make up our relay team. On Wednesday, we will have run-offs for the 200 metres. An important message...If you do not make the event of your choice, it is important that you do no quit the team. Come see Mr. Adams and we will try to get you a spot on the team.

Monday Announcements

1. Olympic Update.. Our Canadian team was awesome. With a final total of 29 medals, we finished third overall... a great accomplishment. Let us continue to always have pride in our country moving forward and always respect the flag when we hear our morning announcements.
2. Chess team practice today..All members must be there to go over the final things before the tournament. Check out your google classroom for information.
3. Students in Grade 8 interested in playing badminton... the season will begin next week. Listen to announcements for practices. There will be a meeting Friday at Lunch.   
4. Black History Month Fact... 

Ferguson (Fergie) Arthur Jenkins is one of Canada's most celebrated baseball players. Jenkins, who played for the Philadelphia Phillies and the Chicago Cubs, was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1991.

Announcements

1. Olympic Update.. After another great night, we have moved up to second place overall in the world behind Norway with 27 medals..a new Canadian record.  Only a few days left, so be proud of our Canadian team.
2. Chess team practice today..All forms must be in.
3. Last night with ticket prices going for $500, there was great anticipation for the Cardinal game vs. Notre Dame. Fire marshals were called to the Coliseum because of the overcapacity crowd of 20004 screaming fans crammed in the building. The 2 teams battled like fierce warriors with a defensive battle for the ages. In the end, the fighting Irish prevailed by a couple of buckets. Mr. Palamides and Mr. Adams are very proud of the effort of this team. They were a pleasure to coach. Thanks for a great season.  
4. Black History Month Fact... 

Although born in Jamaica, Donovan Bailey emigrated to Canada as a teenager. He is one of the country's most highly decorated track athletes and once held the world record for the 100-metre sprint. He won three world championships and two gold medals at the 1996 Olympics.

1. Olympic Update..With more medals yesterday, Canada's  medal count has moved up to 24 medals.only 1 medal from Germany for second place behind Norway. Only a few days left, so enjoy our Canadian pride.

Howard Douglas McCurdy Jr., a storied civil rights activist for Windsor and Canada, and a "true example of Black excellence," has died at the age of 85. Please keep his family in your prayers.

1. Olympic Update..After another Golden day...Canada continues to dominate at the Winter Olympics.. The medal count stands at 20 medals now with many other potential ones to come. Women vie for the hockey gold tonight.

1. Olympic Update..After a 3 Gold day...Canada continues to shine at the Winter Olympics..With 8 gold, 5 silver and 6 bronze medals we are standing at third overall with 19 medals. Way to go Canada!

Announcements

1. Chess Team there is a vital meeting today to confirm our entry to the Chess Tournament on February 28th. You must be here.
2. Wow what a game. 18 925 fans jam packed into the CCMS Coliseum to witness the most exciting basketball game in CCMS History. Down by 7 and by 5 on a couple of occasions, the Cardinals rallied behind their stout defense and hit some key shots in defeating LAD. They proceed next to the Elite 8 with a game here next Thursday. Players check Google classroom for the schedule for the week.
3.  Olympic Update..We are still at a solid 13 medals right now...With both our hockey teams pulling out victories. Keep rooting on our home team we go against the best in the world.
4. Looking for something to do this weekend?... Take a trip down to Amherstburg to The Amherstburg Freedom Museum in Ontario  to learn more about African-Canadian history.

2. Black History Month Fact.... During the War of American Independence (1775-1783), the British offered freedom to enslaved Africans in America who joined the British side during the war. Many accepted the invitation, and as a result 10 percent of the United Empire Loyalists coming into the Maritimes were Black.

4. Black History Month Fact of the day...In 1628, Olivier LeJeune was recorded as the first enslaved African to live in Canada (i.e. New France). Olivier LeJeune's birth name is not known, as he was taken from Africa as a young child and eventually given the last name of the priest who purchased him.

People of African descent were enslaved in Canada from 1628 until slavery was abolished in Upper Canada in 1793 and throughout the entire British Empire in 1833.

Monday Announcements

1. Black History Month Fact..Our Rosa Parks: Viola Davis Desmond was not here for the nonsense. In 1946, she pulled a Rosa Parks in Nova Scotia's Roseland Theatre as she refused to sit in the balcony and instead sat in the seats reserved exclusively for white people. She was later arrested. In 2010, the government of Nova Scotia apologized to her family for the incident.

2. Olympic Fact..We currently sit in second place with 6 medals..  1 Gold/4 Silver and 1 Bronze medals. Way to Canada!

3. Health Team meeting today...We need all students on the team today in Room 15.
4. Chess Team...There is mandatory meeting for all team members to go over the tourney today. You must be there!

5. We have started the Hero of Play program for the duration of the Olympics. We are looking for students who lives a healthy active lifestyle and embodies the Olympic values of excellence, friendship and respect. Our first winner is Jacob Renaud.

6. Congratulations to the CCMS Choir! You rocked the National Anthem at the Windsor Spitfires game. Many people remarked it was the best of the year! Way to make us proud.
