Boys Soccer vs St. William

On Monday afternoon, our CCMS boys traveled out to Emeryville to play the Wildcats of St. William.

Both teams opened the game playing confident soccer, with excellent passing and strong defence.  Our boys would open the scoring about halfway through when tender Lucas booted the ball down the field, creating a breakaway goal for Zach.  The Wildcats would tie the game later in the half during a scramble in front of the Cardinal net.

Our boys would take over in the second half, however, forcing the play on St. William's side of the field.  Zach would tally once more, and Liam put the icing on the cake late in the game, sealing a 3-1 victory.

Incredible hustle was shown by Josh, Aidan and Roman on the defensive side.

Great job boys.  We will practice Wednesday after school.

Girls Game against VIanney

Congratulations to the Girls soccer team who went to St. John Vianney and played a very tough opponent.  After getting down 1-0 in the first 10 minutes our Lady Cardinals stormed back with a well-developed play out of the left hand corner and a goal mouth scramble with Cristina Charles hammering home the equalizer to make it 1-1.  Early in the second half, Mykaela Everitt fired a beauty into the top shelf to put our girls up 2-1.  SJV then tied it at 2 a piece and then with ten minutes to go it was Cristina Charles with the go ahead goal and game winner with a sweet left foot top corner snipe.  With the 3-2 lead Lauren Purves made a few unbelievable stops and the Cardinal D was dominant. Great job girls and see you at practice on Monday.
p.s. Great job Karly on leading the cheer before the game.

Boys Soccer vs. SJV

If you think that the most significant sporting event taking place on Wednesday September 27th was the Chicago Cubs division clinching win, you'd be wrong.  It was the soccer battle of Riverside at St. John Vianney with our CCMS boys and the Vianney Stars.

Our boys came out strong in the 1st half, with relentless pressure in the Vianney half of the field, peppering the Stars net and moving the ball beautifully between players.  Vianney would open the scoring however, on a freak through ball that had our D on the run and ended with a breakaway goal.

The scoreboard would end up turning in our favour quickly though, as the Cardinal pressure mounted once again in the Stars part of the field.  Liam would tally 1st for the Cards, followed by Anthony, Zach and Tyler...resulting in a 4-1 lead for our boys at the half.

Lucas and Cozy were awesome between the pipes, and Aidan and Josh turned up the heat on D in the second half, limiting the Stars chances.  Liam, Zach and Tyler would all get their 2nd goals and CCMS would roll to a 7-2 win!

Great job boys.  Next up is a game at St. William on Monday.
